Successful Completion of the Work-based Trades Practical Assessment Pilot Project & Video Launch

Last week, the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) and ISANS celebrated the successful completion of the Work-based Trades Practical Assessment pilot project and the launch of a new program video. The project was funded by NSAA and trade participants are ISANS clients.

Minister of Immigration, the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, opened the ceremony and stressed the need for immigrants to help build a stronger Nova Scotia. Marjorie Davison, CEO of NSAA and Jennifer Watts, ISANS Director of Settlement & Integration presented appreciation plaques to participating employers and certificates to clients.

Participants, whose countries of origin include Syria, Iraq, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Russia, Columbia, Congo and Israel, each received a certificate of completion, and overall, 15 completed the practical assessment and 11 gained full-time employment as apprentices in their fields. Employers represented included Davis Plumbing and Heating Ltd., Dexter Construction, Ford McPhee, Goodspeeds Manufacturing Ltd., Harbourside Collision, MacDonnell Welding and Metal Working Ltd., SGM Construction, Turple Engineering, and VEP Mechanical.
