Business Workshops
ISANS has business workshops and seminars to help newcomers start and grow a successful business.
To attend business training workshops, you must first:
- be a recent citizen, permanent resident or approved to immigrate
- register as an ISANS client
- meet with an ISANS business counsellor
- have a minimum CLB 5
Classes and workshops takes place on-site at ISANS or online through our Online Learning website.

On-site Business Training
Most workshops are 2-hours (6:00-8:00pm) and are facilitated by a subject matter expert from the community or an ISANS Business Trainer.
Workshop topics can include:

Introduction to Business in Nova Scotia
This introductory course will give you an overview of what you need to know to start a business in Nova Scotia. The workshop is self-directed - you work at your own pace and convenience. You will learn about: business plans, Canadian business culture, networking, business structures, business registration and zoning, licenses and permits, bookkeeping, banking and credit, funding considerations, taxation, business insurance and employee regulations.
Evaluating Your Business Idea - Currently Unavailable
As a new immigrant to Nova Scotia, you may want to open your own business. You may already have a business idea but need to figure out if it will work. This workshop will help you build the skills needed to effectively evaluate your business idea to discover if it is a money making opportunity.
Business Plan Creation - Currently Unavailable
You have evaluated your business idea and your research has shown that you, your idea and the target market may be a match. It is now time for you to bring all your research together and build a business plan. This workshop will help you develop the skills needed to create a business plan. You will learn about: business plan creation, presentation design and development, and funding considerations.
