BMO donates to support SupperNova

002_smWe would like to thank BMO for their generous donation to support SupperNOVA Multicultural Potluck. On Thursday, October 1, BMO presented Gerry Mills, our Director of Operations with a cheque for $1500.

Community organizations such as the African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes (ADAM),YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs, St. Andrew’s HRM Recreation Center, ISANS and Frontier College and active community members have been organizing this event three or four times a year since 2001.

SupperNOVA provides the opportunity for new immigrants and long term Halifax residents to meet, share a meal, exchange stories and enjoy cultural entertainment. This event allows the Halifax to celebrate and learn about our cultural diversity and welcome newcomers to the community. This informal cultural event also counters the isolation felt by many new immigrants in the settlement process.

At our last event 60 volunteers organized an evening of food and entertainment for over 270 guests at Saint Benedict Church. Guests brought food from all over the world. Frontier College provided literacy games for children, we had a games room for adults and the YMCA did henna drawings. The evening’s entertainment included a Cuban bagpiper, African drumming, Bhutanese dancing, and youth dancers from the Halifax Dance Academy. It was a great success!

Please join us for our next SupperNOVA Saturday, October 24 – visit the event page for details!
