RBC funds Creative Arts & Crafts

We would like to thank RBC for helping fund our Creative Arts & Crafts project. On Wednesday, September 30, RBC presented Gerry Mills, ISANS Director of Operations with a cheque for $5000.

ISANS has offered a number of art programs for immigrants and youth over the years which have been highly popular. We have successfully brought immigrants together with creative pursuits that provide an indirect and positive way to deal with stress. It has also been effective in enhancing communication within families, creating a safe intergenerational environment to talk and work on a project collectively. It is a particularly effective way to engage seniors and those who are not able to participate in more structured classroom learning. It breaks isolation and provides a venue to practice English and be with others.

ISANS has a number of volunteers who are artists and have offered to facilitate arts and crafts activities with immigrants.  Funding will cover the costs of materials and supplies and also support transportation for immigrants with mobility issues.

Examples of upcoming activities being considered include:

1.) Intergenerational Sing-along — in collaboration with local musicians, seniors will come together to sing and play music with the children in the ISANS childcare centre

2.) Arts in the Garden – a program to bring seniors together with neighbours and family members for weekly visual arts programin the community gardens. These activities will be designed according to the interests of participants and could include music, dance, film, photography, theatre, animation, etc.

Thank you RBC!
