Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia Recognized as one of Canada’s Best Places to Work!

gptw_Canada_BestWorkplaces_2014_rgbWe are delighted to announce that Immigrant Settlement & Integration Services is being recognized as one of this year’s Best Workplaces in Canada for 2014 by Great Place to Work Institute Canada and received the award at a ceremony last night in Toronto!

This award is presented to the 50 Best Workplaces in Canada (medium <1000 employees) and Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia is honoured to be recognized as such. This list, and related stories, will appear in a special national report on Thursday April 17, 2014 in The Globe and Mail.

With over 120 staff members from more than thirty-five countries of origin, we are the largest immigrant-serving agency in Atlantic Canada. Our staff is dedicated, diverse, highly professional, qualified and experienced in their field. More than 80% of the staff have lived and worked internationally as well as in Canada, adding a wealth of cross-cultural understanding and competence to their skills.

Our work is all about accompanying new immigrants in part of their journey to building new lives here.  Our mission can only be accomplished by caring and capable people and creating a great workplace is an essential foundation for excellent service.

photo 2“A workplace is only as good as the people who work there and this award is a recognition of the board, employees and volunteers who, every day, make Immigrant Settlement & Integration Services such a great place to work,” says Gerry Mills, Director of Operations.  In the words of one employee:  “The mission and vision of the organization is simply the best and the organization walks its talk. This staff is the most diverse I have ever seen in Canada and because of this, the talent and innovation happens easily.”  And another wrote, “Everyone here is passionate about and committed to our mission.  I think everyone enjoys coming to work and finds it personally meaningful, so we are all enthusiastic, hard-working and engaged.  It is a very energizing atmosphere.”

This list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada.  The competition process is based on a survey completed by employees and an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work®: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

This year’s list received over 300 nominations and over 60,000 employees participated in the 2014 “Best Workplaces in Canada” survey.
